KID ACNE

 

Kid Acne (b. Malawi, 1978) is a UK-based artist, illustrator and emcee. His work fuses folklore, symbolic imagery and a distinctive graphic language shaped by three decades of DIY culture. Emerging from the world of fanzines, graffiti and experimental Hip-Hop he produced as a teenager throughout the 1990s, his practice is rooted in hand-drawn typography, printmaking and narrative-driven mark-making.

 

Working across murals, silkscreen editions and a wide range of self-published projects, he blends esotericism, humour and everyday urban landscapes to create new environments that feel both otherworldly and future-facing. This approach underpins the recurring characters, rituals and motifs that define his current studio work.

 

He has painted murals on five continents and exhibited at Saatchi Gallery (London), PICA (Perth, AU) and a variety of international galleries and project spaces. As an emcee, he has released music on his own label, Invisible Spies, as well as Lex Records and Lewis Recordings, performing widely across the UK and North America, with additional appearances at European festivals including Sonar.

 

He has also created artwork for independent music labels, fashion brands and cultural organisations, such as Kenzo, Prada, Levi’s, Universal Works, Warp Records, Big Dada, Fat Beats, Kid Robot, Brompton, Channel 4 and BBC Radio 6 Music.

 

He lives and works in Sheffield.
