HAVE A WORD – Final Week

Once again, I’d like to show my gratitude to everyone who has visited the exhibition so far. This has been a self-directed project and a huge undertaking, so you’re support is truly appreciated.

After months of preparation, I’m pleased to announce my first Sheffield solo show in five years;

HAVE A WORD – An Exhibition of Lyrics and Typography, hosted by S1 Artspace

1 Norwich St, Park Hill, Sheffield

September 13th – 28th
(Wed – Sat, 12-5pm)

Having made art and music in various guises over the years, these seemingly disparate elements have generally occupied unrelated spaces in my studio practice, despite both being an equal driving force in my creative output. The aim of the exhibition is to connect the dots through the exploration of lyrics and lettering, utilising limited resources and a more DIY mindset.

The entire show comprises of a new series of letter-based works, informed by snippets of lyrics from my forthcoming album (also titled HAVE A WORD), released on LEX this Autumn. The record is the result of an 18-month-long transatlantic collaboration with Chicago-based producer, Spectacular Diagnostics and features guest emcees Juga-Naut, Juice Aleem and New Kingdom. A limited number of advance vinyl copies will be available exclusively at the exhibit.

Outside the gallery will be a series of large-scale slogan pieces, occupying a number of walls within the Park Hill complex, where I’ve become the unofficial/official “artist in residence” over the past few weeks. These murals intend to put the canvases in context, whilst temporarily transforming unoccupied areas of the site.

The exhibition is kindly supported by Urban Splash, Sheffield Hallam and TrueNorth Brew Co.

More information to follow over the next few weeks…

In the meantime, thank you for your continued support and interest. x

Continuing an ongoing series of self-directed work – the Stabby Women are an enigmatic tribe of female warriors. This deluxe print depicts a masked character in the woods, decorated in homemade tattoos and ready for combat; Perhaps these symbols are a clue to the Stabby Women’s heritage and belief system? Or perhaps their origin will remain a mystery a while longer? Who knows…

“My Dad passed away in 2015 after developing cirrhosis of the liver, brought on by decades of alcohol abuse. A year later I decided to quit drinking myself and in 2017 I became a patron of SASS. Despite his flaws, my Dad was a brilliant man and creative soul. My hope is that through these prints I’m able to raise awareness about alcohol issues and mental health and help give support to families and individuals experiencing these difficulties.

I’d like to thank everyone who bought the first edition of HAPPY HOUR, which sold out in a couple of days. The funds raised have been put to good use. Please continue to show your support with ‘HAPPY HOUR #2’ – this design features 19 new pubs, all lovingly drawn and hand-printed at B&B Editions, Sheffield.”
