Zebra Face – 10 Year Anniversary Books

A decade ago, Supreme Vagabond Craftsman and I published our first book. He wrote the stories and I drew the pictures. It was called ZEBRA FACE and chronicled the adventures of a rubbish superhero and his mouthorgan-weilding sidekick as they battled a succession of baddies in a 2Dimentional universe with only rudimentary rhyme skills as their ‘special powers’.
With no distribution deal, website or blog – the book created a wave ripple of interest from the music press and style mags of the time. Via independent record shops, book shops and clothes shops we managed to shift 1,000 copies across the country, throughout Europe and as far away as the US and Japan, which to us felt like a huge success.
Having moved studio and house umpteen times since them days, we recently discovered a few boxes of unsold books. In celebration of the 10 year anniversary, we’ve lobbed them online to get your fingers wrapped round HERE.

Yo Insomniakz this is proof of the truth comin right through yo sunroof. This is two hover-trouser emcees with Guess Who moustaches and dangly earrings goin one plus one on the fuckin runway, ridin scramblers up yo embankment. 100cc is our situation you get weh?

Hell yes. We’ve finally been given the green light for the animated series too, which features a whole host of bad-boy MCs doing the characters’ voices. More about that in 2012 when Zebra Face hits your haunted fish tank live and direct!

Unclear Ground/ Terrain Vague

As part of our residency in Niort, Ema and I put together this installation titled Unclear Ground/ Terrain Vague at the historic Pilori Museum in the town centre. The show is curated by Winterlong Galerie and runs until October 29th.

The installation also includes this excellent video piece by Jipé Corre (Fr), and bespoke soundtrack by longterm collaborator, Cherrystones (Uk).

Toah Dynamic – Movement

Not many record labels kickstart their catalogue with a vinyl-only album that’s been recorded in a garden shed and I’ll bet even fewer use their brother’s GCSE artwork* for the cover image. I shouldn’t wonder if almost none of them name their album after his GSCE art project and I reckon zilch would transcribe a letter from their NanNan for the Lp sleeve notes – but there you have it, back in the year 2000 (AKA the Year Two Hundred) that’s exactly what we did to inaugurate Invisible Spies Records

by unleashing 1,000 copies of Toah Dynamic’s “Movement” to the world.

Band members consisted of: Supreme Vagabond Craftsman, Be My Twin, Kid Acne, Chips for the Poor, 64 Cousins, The Knowledge, Benjamin and Earl Shilton. If we were anything like Wu Tang (which we weren’t), Movement would have been our 36 Chambers, before we slowly disbanded to make a bunch of solo records and offshoot projects.

At the turn of the Willennium we were numb to the digikal frontier, so before our musical endeavours are lost forever by the Wizards of Speed and Time (ie: car boot fares and charity shops), we’re adding the entire Invisible Spies back catalogue to the robotic-boxcar-racetrack for all to enjoy.

Buckle up and hold tight on the corners…

Experience Movement by Toah Dynamic HERE. More releases on their way shortly.

It is now 1:25 and I am in my favourite spot in the window with the sun shining on me; the sky is blue but there are dark clouds hanging around. I hung my boil wash first thing this morning and only just got indoors before it started to rain and hail. I hurriedly fetched it in and draped it round the radiators, and there it is going to stay despite the sunshine.

When I got up last Saturday morning I found my garden shed door wide open, looked inside but there wasn’t anything missing. However, I heard on Monday that David, over the road had his garden shed thieved, all electrical gear missing. There were just garden chairs in mine, plus a mower which would be very heavy, plus the two ceramic ducks which go on my gravel in the Summer. Mind you, they are very heavy but I am only too thankful that they weren’t damaged. Mind you, my squirrel – which was a present last year and which was put underneath my big fir tree on the front lawn has gone AWOL. Still, it did last almost a year and in this day and age, I suppose is an achievement.

* He got a D. There’s no justice in this world.
