After months of preparation, I’m pleased to announce my first Sheffield solo show in five years;
HAVE A WORD – An Exhibition of Lyrics and Typography, hosted by S1 Artspace.
1 Norwich St, Park Hill, Sheffield
September 13th – 28th
(Wed – Sat, 12-5pm)
Having made art and music in various guises over the years, these seemingly disparate elements have generally occupied unrelated spaces in my studio practice, despite both being an equal driving force in my creative output. The aim of the exhibition is to connect the dots through the exploration of lyrics and lettering, utilising limited resources and a more DIY mindset.
The entire show comprises of a new series of letter-based works, informed by snippets of lyrics from my forthcoming album (also titled HAVE A WORD), released on LEX this Autumn. The record is the result of an 18-month-long transatlantic collaboration with Chicago-based producer, Spectacular Diagnostics and features guest emcees Juga-Naut, Juice Aleem and New Kingdom. A limited number of advance vinyl copies will be available exclusively at the exhibit.
Outside the gallery will be a series of large-scale slogan pieces, occupying a number of walls within the Park Hill complex, where I’ve become the unofficial/official “artist in residence” over the past few weeks. These murals intend to put the canvases in context, whilst temporarily transforming unoccupied areas of the site.
The exhibition is kindly supported by Urban Splash, Sheffield Hallam and TrueNorth Brew Co.
More information to follow over the next few weeks…
In the meantime, thank you for your continued support and interest. x
